About Me

My photo
My passion is decorating with vintage and antique finds on a budget. There was a time when I wouldn't have dreamed of going into a goodwill. That day has passed. :) My second love is scrapbooking all those special family moments for posterity, and I recently set up my very own scrapbooking room. I have three beautiful children, two sons and a daughter as well as a sweet (albeit full blooded Yankee) daughter-in-law and two grandgirls. I also enjoy gardening, meeting new friends and relaxing on my patio in the evenings with a glass of fine wine. During the summer of 2001, I spent two glorious weeks at Kennedy Space Center. I've been somewhat of a space geek ever since....

Metamorphosis Monday - Kim's Chair

Just couldn't wait to join Susan's Metamorphosis Monday party at Between Naps on the Porch and post pics of the chair that my friend Kim and I found at a garage sale for $5.00. Her husband stripped layers and layers of paint off and painted it a distressed red. It looks beautiful in her master bedroom of her condo, don't you think? What a steal for five bucks!

Burt's Bee Giveaway

Who doesn't love a freebie? I am hooked and I mean SERIOUSLY hooked on Burt's Bees Lip Balm. I wear it under my lipstick and I never ever get chapped lips or fever blisters any more. The peppermint oil is so cool and soothing that if you try it, you'll be hooked, too, I promise. Both my daughter and daughter-in-law are at the "can't live without it" stage thanks to me. The company is giving away 1,000 free lip balms every day for the next month. To get your freebie, go to:

Hooray for Summer!

What a busy week it has been...... The twins turned four on Tuesday, we had Kaitlyn's Baccalaureate ceremony on Thursday evening, I closed out my school year on Friday morning, and she graduated from high school on Friday evening. The parents of the graduates hosted an all-night party at Lod Cook Alumni Center that ended at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. And I'm EXHAUSTED! Slept most of the day yesterday. Here is my beautiful daughter who graduated with a 3.81 GPA and earned the high TOPS award (tuition plus $800) plus a $1,000 Freshman Merit Award to Louisiana State University. She's pictured here with me and her granny, who was a Phi Kappa Phi graduate of LSU and is still going strong at 87. I'm so very proud of that youngun!

Metamorphosis Monday

Click on the photos to get a better view of the rooms.

For my Metamorphosis Monday post, I'm sharing the condo staging that my best friend Kim and I did over the weekend. She and her husband bought this condo in Orange Beach, Alabama two weekends ago and we wanted to get it rental ready in a hurry. So we drove down Friday afternoon after work and spent 48 jam packed crazily busy hours trying to get it decorated so that the rental agency could come in and take photos for the website. The total and complete exhaustion is showing on my face right now. Click on the link below to check out the "before" pictures and let me know what you think about the transformation.......

Thanks, Susan, at Between Naps on the Porch for hosting the Metamorphosis Monday party!

It's amazing how the soft color of the comforters neutralizes the yellow in the green paint, isn't it?

Garage Sale Saturday

My best friend and her husband have purchased a condo in Florida and she invited me to go garage saling in order to look for some housewares to help stock the kitchen. Pictured above are three vintage issues of Look Magazine from 1967 that I bought for 50 cents each and the freebie of the day, a crystal sugar bowl in a sterling silver holder. We had seen two garage sale signs in the same subdivision and by the time we finished at the first sale, everything at the second sale was free! The silver was very tarnished but it cleaned up well with a lemon juice and salt rub. I think I'm going to use it for bath salts by the bathtub. And then we hit gold at one house where Kim found a distressed blue green windsor style wooden chair for $5.00 and I found this small cabinet for $15.00. The cabinet is in great shape as is but I'm thinking of painting it black to use in my daughter's bedroom as a nightstand. Her room is decorated in robin's egg blue, linen, and black. A great find, huh? Thanks, Rhoda, for inviting us all to post our garage sale finds.
