About Me

My photo
My passion is decorating with vintage and antique finds on a budget. There was a time when I wouldn't have dreamed of going into a goodwill. That day has passed. :) My second love is scrapbooking all those special family moments for posterity, and I recently set up my very own scrapbooking room. I have three beautiful children, two sons and a daughter as well as a sweet (albeit full blooded Yankee) daughter-in-law and two grandgirls. I also enjoy gardening, meeting new friends and relaxing on my patio in the evenings with a glass of fine wine. During the summer of 2001, I spent two glorious weeks at Kennedy Space Center. I've been somewhat of a space geek ever since....

The Ups and Downs of Life

Haven't been active on my blog lately as there is lots going on in my life.  My sweet 89 year old mom has been struggling with issues lately and we had to move her out of her comfy assisted living apartment and into a nursing home.  She fell hard early one morning last week which caused a blood vessel in her brain to break, resulting in a blood clot on her brain.  Always one to drink lots and lots of milk, she has really strong bones and amazingly enough, didn't fracture anything.  The only treatment for the clot is brain surgery for which she is not a candidate, due to heart issues.  She has been bed bound since the fall.  We put her in the best nursing home in the area but the reality of it all is so sad.

Here she is just a few months ago on Christmas day.....  Always one to take great care of her skin, she looks amazing for her age, don't you think?  She has gone downhill so quickly since then.

On a more positive note, I watched my grandgirls on Thursday night while my DIL went to her economics class.  They had a ball playing with the new kittens. They were scrapbooking their little hearts out with their scissors and glue sticks and colored paper and stickers while the kittens played nearby.  And then Brooke asked me, "Gram, does kitten hair grow back?"  Oh, nooooooooooooo.......

Yep, you got it, she gave him a little trim up top just in time for Easter Sunday............  :)

Please excuse those dirty shorts.  Those are my work-in-the-yard-grass-cutting shorts........

HAPPY EASTER, EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. I know this past week must have been difficult for you. I am keeping you and your mom in my prayers. Glad it was the kittens hair instead of their own. That would have been lovely for Easter pictures. Have a wonderful Easter!

  2. I am so sorry to hear about your Mom! How awful! My own mother ended up in a nursing home wih severe dementia and it forever alters your life, doesn't it? At that age it seems that there is not so much that can be done for them...which is heartbreaking for them AND the family. I'm saying a prayer for your Mom's recovery. Sbe is a beautiful woman for her age and I remember when you posted that picture.

Every cat needs a little trim, Gram-didn't you KNOW that? It could have been worse. She could have cut her OWN hair just in time for Easter. That has been done at our house! xxoo Diana

  4. It looks like you're going thru a bad time with your dear mami...it always so sad to see them go down hill when they pass 80 and 89 is not an easy age. Yes, her skin looks great and she's a very pretty lady...you look like her! My prayers are with you and may you receive many blessings this Easter, along with your mama, and the rest of your family.

  5. Terri, so sorry to hear of your sweet mom's fall and move. My mom will be 91 in June and has settled in nicely at her assisted living facility. However, her home has not sold (on the market 18 months!) and we will have approx. 1 year left if it doesn't sell to keep her there...after that we don't know what we'll do! I know I need to turn this completely over to God as he knows our needs but it's so hard not to worry.

Thank goodness she didn't break any bones, at that age, it's hard to recover.

Hope you and your family have a wonderful Easter weekend!

  7. So sorry about your mom, Terri. My mom fell also (she will be 93 in 3 months) a few months ago and also had a blood clot in the brain but recovered so I hope your mom will be the same. No fracture helps!...Christine
