About Me

My photo
My passion is decorating with vintage and antique finds on a budget. There was a time when I wouldn't have dreamed of going into a goodwill. That day has passed. :) My second love is scrapbooking all those special family moments for posterity, and I recently set up my very own scrapbooking room. I have three beautiful children, two sons and a daughter as well as a sweet (albeit full blooded Yankee) daughter-in-law and two grandgirls. I also enjoy gardening, meeting new friends and relaxing on my patio in the evenings with a glass of fine wine. During the summer of 2001, I spent two glorious weeks at Kennedy Space Center. I've been somewhat of a space geek ever since....

Garage Sale Saturday

My best friend and her husband have purchased a condo in Florida and she invited me to go garage saling in order to look for some housewares to help stock the kitchen. Pictured above are three vintage issues of Look Magazine from 1967 that I bought for 50 cents each and the freebie of the day, a crystal sugar bowl in a sterling silver holder. We had seen two garage sale signs in the same subdivision and by the time we finished at the first sale, everything at the second sale was free! The silver was very tarnished but it cleaned up well with a lemon juice and salt rub. I think I'm going to use it for bath salts by the bathtub. And then we hit gold at one house where Kim found a distressed blue green windsor style wooden chair for $5.00 and I found this small cabinet for $15.00. The cabinet is in great shape as is but I'm thinking of painting it black to use in my daughter's bedroom as a nightstand. Her room is decorated in robin's egg blue, linen, and black. A great find, huh? Thanks, Rhoda, for inviting us all to post our garage sale finds.

  5. We have a wonderful rumage sale that is going to be every weekend about two miles away in a open barn structure. It will benefit the homeless and I may just bring things there rather than have my own yard sale. A TV station will feature it next week.

Saturday at this sale I got a $1 dress with a jeans top and a gorgeous skirt with my colors. I will repurpose it to a skirt by cutting off the top and putting an elastic waist in. I have many tops to wear with it. Have you read the book "Color Me Beautiful"? I am a Spring. It is my season!
