About Me

My photo
My passion is decorating with vintage and antique finds on a budget. There was a time when I wouldn't have dreamed of going into a goodwill. That day has passed. :) My second love is scrapbooking all those special family moments for posterity, and I recently set up my very own scrapbooking room. I have three beautiful children, two sons and a daughter as well as a sweet (albeit full blooded Yankee) daughter-in-law and two grandgirls. I also enjoy gardening, meeting new friends and relaxing on my patio in the evenings with a glass of fine wine. During the summer of 2001, I spent two glorious weeks at Kennedy Space Center. I've been somewhat of a space geek ever since....

Metamorphosis Monday

Hi, ladies. I'm new to blogland and jumping on board in search of some blog friends. This old gate leg table was rescued from the ditch of our country road by my dear hubby several years ago. Someone had taken an electric sander to the top and ruined the finish. After a little TLC in the form of several coats of glossy white paint and some handpainted dragonflies, it served long and well in my daughter's bedroom. When she redecorated, my dear friend got the boot and has been patiently waiting to be of service again. I've been dreaming of a scrapbook room for ages and I made that happen over the Christmas break. So now my dear old gateleg table is basking in the spotlight again, this time with a fresh coat of flat black paint. I'm still deciding whether I like the contrast of the blue toile fabric I had on hand against the cool green walls. Black toile would really bring out the green, don't you think? There's still much work to be done in the room but wanted to let you take a peek. I'm planning to mount some black shelving to the wall to house glass jars containing my ribbons sorted by color and want to replace the wooden cart (compliments of the thrift store) with something prettier and more substantial. Thanks, Susan, from Between Naps on the Porch for giving me the opportunity to join in the fun.

  6. Hi there! Welcome to blogland neighbor~ Your family is just precious and those twin girls ...too cute. I bet you had them some kinda spoiled while they lived with ya,smile.
I saw in your profile that your son had lymphoma. Im so glad to see that he is doing much better. I have a quick question to ask you if you dont mind. What were his symptoms? Two years ago they did a couple scans on my son looking for kidney stones. They found some swollen lymph's in his stomach area. They did another scan with contrast and sent us to a St. Jude dr. in Baton Rouge. She took one look at him and said he was fine??? No test, nothing. She sent us home. This past summer he cam down with Mono and has lost some weight. Im still a bit concerned but he is 18 now and refuses to go back for any test. I was just wondering if there is something I should be keeping a look out for. He does has night sweats sometime but he claims its from his hot waterbed. Im just being a worried mom I guess~ My email is susanh@eatel.net if you would like to send it through there. Thanks so much for your time... Bienvenue to blogland!!!

  8. I think when you have beautiful antiques such as the one you rescued you need to show them off and minimize the wall color and items around the antiques.

I think it is great to have a project/craft room. Will it be used for scrapboarding only? Card tables or banquet tables also are great for scrapboarding.

I used to have a gateleg table. It followed me around the country and I made money on it when I finally sold it. When I used it as a dining table it was awkward to sit around. Then I used it behind a sofa with a lamp on it. It was so versatile.

Now when I entertain I use the vinyl covered pool table in the den for a buffet and ten sit in the dining room, four at the pub table in the den. I also use or at card tables in the family room or living room tables on the deck for a huge crowd.

But I always remember that gateleg table, my first dining table.

  9. Hi NewKid,
Yes, I love the versatility of the table. When my daughter used it in her room, she had it backed up against one wall with the back side down so it sat flush with the wall. There is much I want to do to my room but I'll have to do it in snips because I've got a senior this year. It's just one thing after another. She's out shopping for a winter formal dance dress now. Found one she absolutely loved, only $440. That's just a little too pricey for me, especially for a short dress. I told her to keep shopping.
