About Me

My photo
My passion is decorating with vintage and antique finds on a budget. There was a time when I wouldn't have dreamed of going into a goodwill. That day has passed. :) My second love is scrapbooking all those special family moments for posterity, and I recently set up my very own scrapbooking room. I have three beautiful children, two sons and a daughter as well as a sweet (albeit full blooded Yankee) daughter-in-law and two grandgirls. I also enjoy gardening, meeting new friends and relaxing on my patio in the evenings with a glass of fine wine. During the summer of 2001, I spent two glorious weeks at Kennedy Space Center. I've been somewhat of a space geek ever since....

Vintage Favorite

Okay, I admit it. I have no tricks to pull out of my valentine bag. Just can't come up with anything to post for the centerpiece challenge or the tablescape.

What's your favorite vintage piece? The one that you would re-enter a burning house to rescue? Here is my favorite. From the looks of the hair and clothing style, I would guess the original photo was taken in the 1860's. I only WISH this canvas was painted then. You see, my great aunt Daisy had it reproduced on canvas many years after the fact so that she could display it in her home in Houston, Texas. The couple are the grandparents of Daisy's husband, Guy. Aunt Daisy was a world traveler and a lover of exquisite things. Her favorite place to shop was Neiman Marcus. She was a business woman before it was fashionable, married late in life, and never had any children. Another neat thing about Daisy was that she abhorred garbage cans and wouldn't have one in her kitchen. She kept it in her garage in the alley out back and made numerous trips back and forth. Imagine that! People who visit my house always comment on my vintage painting. My husband hates it. Oh well, he'll get over it.

  1. Daisy is so interesting! In our neighborhood the garbage might be gotten into by a roaming dog in the middle of the night! Daisy would be horrified to have to clean that one up!

My two favorite vintage pieces are of my Swedish grandmothers--Anna in Sweden and Laura in the Oregon yard with a cow.

I have framed family pictures all down the hall on one side. I put my husband's family on the otherside. Then there is a small bulletin board in the hall for grandchildren; those pictures change regularly and I am so behind in my photo albums. How does one keep up?!

  2. Hi Terri, I'll try to explain a little here and then just email me at betweennapsontheporch@gmail.com if you have some other questions. :-)
Ok, your sidebar is just a name folks call that area on the side where you have your profile and your Followers showing...some folks also put pictures there, too.
For an example, let's say you want to put the Tablescape Tuesday button on the side of your blog...here's what you would do. You would go to my blog, right click on the pink Tablescape Tuesday button, a menu will pop up and you will select "COPY." Next you go to someplace (anyplace) on your computer where you want to save that picture...because that's really all a button is...it's a picture. I save button in my picture file, but you could put it on your desktop or whereever you want it. Once you decide where you want to save it on your computer, you just right click again and chose "PASTE". The picture or button for TT is now on your computer. To get the button onto your blog, you go to your dashboard, click on Layout and then click on "Add a Gadget." A long list of different kinds of gadgets will pop up. You will pick the one that says "picture." A box will open up and you will click on "Browse." This gives you the chance to browse your computer for the picture. If you have the tt button (which is really just a picture) saved on your desktop, then "browse" the "desktop" for the picture or TT button. Once you find it, click on it and then click "Save." The TT button should be saved onto your sidebar. So basically what you are doing is "copying" the TT button from my blog onto YOUR computer...say your desktop. Then you are uploading the button to your sidebar...which is that area to the side on your blog. Let me know if you have any questions. If you have any other pics stored on your computer that you would love to display along the side of your blog, you can follow these same directions (dashboard, layout, add a gadget, select picture, browse, etc...) to upload pics to your sidebar. Hope this helps. Susan
